To help reduce the risk of developing chronic kidney disease and its progression to end-stage renal disease: • If you have diabetes, control your blood sugar. • Closely monitor and aggressively treat high blood pressure. • Limit the use of drugs that can cause kidney disease, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and naproxen. Avoid them if you already have some existing kidney damage. • Talk with your doctor about medication to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease. • Quitting smoking and lowering cholesterol levels may also help.
