Mohamed Salah is reportedly ‘open’ to leaving Liverpool should Jurgen Klopp’s side fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The Egyptian winger has been far from his best this season having scored eight goals in 23 Premier League matches.
Salah signed a contract extension last summer and has failed to repay the faith put in him by the club’s hierarchy.
It has been a very difficult season for Liverpool, who are adapting to life without Sadio Mane in their frontline.
Furthermore, Klopp has been extremely unlucky with injuries, with Ibrahima Konate still out and Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota only just back from lengthy absences.
Although the injuries are less than ideal, the Reds have been miles off the pace this season and currently sit seventh in the Premier League, nine points off Tottenham in fourth.
It promises to be a busy summer transfer window with Jude Bellingham strongly linked with a move to Anfield.
However, there could be few significant exits.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool ‘want to sell’ Salah at the end of the season.
Klopp wants to make ‘major changes’ to his squad at the end of the 2022-23 campaign, with Champions League qualification currently looking unlikely.
It could be a ‘major renovation’, with ‘big names within the recent history of the club’ not safe from being axed.
Salah is surprisingly a ‘main candidate’ to leave the Anfield club, the report adds.
The ‘bombshell’ that Salah could leave comes less than a year after he signed a new contract which is not set to expire until 2025.
The 30-year-old is actually ‘willing to leave the club’, believe it or not, and Paris Saint-Germain get a mention.
Football Insider reported last week that the French champions would be interested in signing the forward, and Fichajes say he would probably cost around €80million.
Liverpool are open to receiving offers for Salah as they have other forwards ‘capable’ of replacing him, including Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez.
It is said that the €80m they could receive for the former Chelsea star would be ‘key to close the incorporation’ of Bellingham, and other potential signings.
Salah might be a bit off it this term, but it is a surprise to see him linked with a Liverpool exit.
I know PSG are a bit daft, but I don’t think they would be willing to fork out such a high fee for a player who will be 31 years of age at the start of next season.
Lionel Messi’s contract expires at the end of the season and there have been more rumours that Neymar is surplus to requirements, however.
