Jannik Sinner, bitter social admission after retirement

A great disappointment, reiterated via social.

Jannik Sinner had to forfeit his match in the round of 16 at the ATP 250 Marseille against France’s Arthur Fils, withdrawing from the tournament. The Italian, fresh from his triumph at the ATP 250 in Montpellier and the final he lost to Daniil Medvedev at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, has in fact surrendered to some discomfort and a general feeling of fatigue. And even on his Instagram profile he wanted to give some explanations.

“I’m sorry I withdrew from the Marseille tournament last night,” Sinner explained in a post. “I was looking forward to playing here, but in the last few days I haven’t been feeling well and couldn’t recover in time to play my match. It’s time for me to rest after some very good weeks.”

Sinner had already explained to ‘L’Equipe’ that he felt out of energy already in the immediate post-Rotterdam period, also having to battle with a few lines of fever. The South Tyrolean is scheduled to return to the court for the Indian Wells Masters 1000, an event scheduled for March 8-19.
