Acorn squash is part or falls among starchy vegetables such as pumpkin, potatoes, and sweet potatoes, so they can be defined as non keto, unless portion size is strictly taken into consideration.

Keto diet generally operates on the principle of low carbohydrates, high fat intake. Foods with high net carbohydrates do not fit into the keto diet plan. Unfortunately, acorn squash has 20 gram of carbohydrates in one cup. Although some individuals on keto diet may take up to 50 grams of carbohydrates per day, having 20 grams of the nutrient from a cup of acorn squash may make it too difficult to plan. Therefore, acorn squash is not suitable on a keto diet.

No, acorn squash is not keto. One of the characteristics of the keto diet is that it is very low in carbohydrates and that it has a net amount of carbohydrate recommendation (usually less than 30g per day or less than 10% of the total energy distribution). Most vegetables are fairly low in carbohydrates and can be consumed frequently on a keto diet, however starchy vegetables such as winter squash, including acorn squash, naturally has more carbohydrates than non-starchy vegetables. A portion of ½ cup of cooked acorn squash contains 15g of carbohydrates, and will therefore not be keto friendly. It is important to mind portion sizes of carbohydrate rich foods when following a keto diet
