Manchester United are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to extend Marcus Rashford’s contract, after the attacker has enjoyed some tremendous form recently.
The England international has seemed rejuvenated since the arrival of Erik ten Hag, scoring 21 goals in 34 appearances this season, hence United’s desire to keep him at Old Trafford.
Paris Saint-Germain have previously been linked with Rashford, but if these reports are to be believed, he looks set to remain in England.
It seemed that when Cristiano Ronaldo left United last November that they would have big problems scoring enough goals to challenge for trophies, but Rashford has been incredible, especially since the World Cup break.
Largely as a result of his good form, the Red Devils currently sit in third place in the Premier League table, just five points behind league leaders Arsenal.
As it stands, Rashford currently has just 18 months remaining on his contract with United and a failure to pen an extension could mean they could lose their star man on a free transfer next year.
Ten Hag, though, doesn’t want to see that happen, along with United’s supporters.
According to football agent Haydn Dodge, talks are progressing well between the club and Rashford’s representatives, so he looks set to remain at Old Trafford for years to come.
He said: “I know Man United have been heavily linked with signing Harry Kane but with Marcus Rashford showing the world exactly what he’s capable of, I think Erik Ten Hag’s plans may have changed slightly.
“I think he will go for a younger, more upcoming striker in the summer instead of Kane. Ten Hag won’t want to bring a new player to the detriment of his most in-form attacker, which is why the club are already in advanced talks to renew his contract.
“I’m hearing positive things – it looks like he’ll end up signing the extension so I expect Rashford’s role at the club to become even bigger from this point.”
Indeed, while Rashford has been a revelation this season, it’s no secret that Ten Hag is also keen to sign another quality centre-forward.
As mentioned, Harry Kane has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a long time, but perhaps a more fitting addition would be Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria international has scored an incredible 17 goals in 18 league appearances this season, and is a key reason why his team are currently 15 points clear at the top of the Serie A.
Pacey, confident, skilful and clearly effective in front of goal, Osimhen could make the perfect strike partner for Rashford next season and has the quality to make United serial title contenders once again.
Ten Hag’s priority though will be getting Rashford’s new contract signed and sealed, as he has proven that he is arguably the Red Devil’s best attacking player this season.
