If Lyme disease is untreated, a number of complications may develop, including: Rashes, including the characteristic “bull’s eye” rash Carditis (heart inflammation), including an abnormal heart rhythm that causes palpitations, dizziness and fainting Meningitis, encephalitis (brain inflammation), nerve damage – these may cause muscle weakness, headache, confusion Arthritis with joint pain and swelling Eye inflammation – different parts of the eye may be inflamed, including the conjunctiva or cornea Chronic symptoms, such as fatigue, brain fog, and widespread pain Some of these (such as the classic rash) occur soon after a tick bite and others (such as neurologic problems) tend to occur weeks or months later. Information on untreated Lyme disease is difficult to obtain because prompt treatment is highly effective and recommended in all cases.

If diseases is left untreated, it results in a multitude of problems such as 1. Neurological disorders (twitching) 2. Neuropsychiatric disturbances (Memory loss, mood sings, sleeping problems) 3. The late stage Lyme disease is often called the great imitator because it has so many multi-faceted symptoms that it is commonly misdiagnosed as multiple sclerosis, fatigue syndrome?ocid=feed-health-article” target=”_blank”>chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune and neurodegenerative diseases.

Untreated Lyme disease can cause: Chronic joint inflammation (Lyme arthritis). Particularly of the knee. Neurological symptoms, such as facial palsy and neuropathy. Cognitive defects, such as impaired memory.

Untreated Lyme disease can produce a wide range of symptoms, depending on the stage of infection. Untreated patients can present with fever, chills, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint aches, and swollen lymph nodes may occur in the absence of rash. If left untreated it will spread to other organs and cause complications. It can cause, arthritis, neurological symptoms like facial palsy and neuropathy, impaired cognitive function like impaired memory.
