For the dish to be considered authentic, at least 51 percent of the ingredients must have originated within Thuringia itself.

4. Altenburger Ziegenkäse

Altenburger Goat Cheese originates from the Thuringian-Saxton area. It is produced from its original 1987 recipe in the Altenburger Land Cheese Dairy in Hartha. This type of goat cheese is only allowed to be produced in the districts of Altenburger Land, Burgenland, and Leipzig and the independent city of Gera.

5. Thüringer Rostbratwurst

Thüringer Rostbratwurst, a German pork and veal sausage, dates back to 1404. It originates in Thuringia and has a very rich history in their culture. The oldest recipe is found in the State Archive in Welmar. Finely minced beef, pork or veal is used from the upper part of the shoulder. These ingredients are blended and filled into a pig or sheep intestine with spices.

6. Weimarer Zwiebelkuchen

7. Eichsfelder Feldgieker
